Vintage Buntings

Do you have a pile of your Granny’s old Doileys sitting in your cupboard and don’t know what to do with them? Solution – Vintage Buntings

Vintage BuntingsAs I am a lover of all things vintage I couldn’t help notice and admire the gorgeous buntings popping up everywhere at the moment. My Aha moment was when I was sorting the linen cupboard reminiscing over my Nan’s antique doiley’s passed down through our family, it just seemed such a shame not to have them on display. But there are only so many I could use around my home so I decided to make some buntings out of them.

The end result was really worth the effort, I now get to enjoy them everyday around my home and I feel like a little of Nana is with me everyday.

A clever friend of mine made Christmas buntings this year with fabric letters hanging down in front of the bunting to spell out Merry Christmas, it looked fabulous made with all co-ordinated fabrics.

They can be used for decorating in the home but can also be used for:

  • Weddings
  • Engagement parties
  • Garden parties
  • Baby showers
  • Hens Nights (you can dangle many things off these – just saying!!)
  • Birthday Parties

Some of my favourite buntings are made of doileys (of course), burlap with lace and pretty co-ordinated fabrics and if you are like me and don’t like to see waste then bunting is for you.
You can re-use, re-purpose and utilise:

  • Scrap booking paper
  • Old hankies
  • Sheet Music for the musician in the home
  • All sorts of fabrics
  • Textiles and paper
  • Newspaper

The string or ties to which you attach the bunting can be made from an array of different materials too, like string, bias binding, ric rac, or strips of material …. just let your imagination run wild.

I just love buntings and the freedom you have creating them, have a go yourself and see what you can create. We invite you to share your creations with us at, we look forward to meeting you there!!
