Fresh Versus Artificial Flowers In Decorating

Do you prefer fresh flowers or life like artificial flowers in your Home?

Fresh flowers have been a favourite for decorating in homes all over the world for centuries, as they add beauty and fragrance to the home.

By using beautiful blooms you can enhance a particular area in a room, create a mood, or simply express your unique style.

Fresh Versus Artificial Flowers In DecoratingAdding fresh flowers to your home can have many benefits:

  • They help infuse feelings of peace and harmony in your home life.
  • Perfumed blooms add fragrance to the home so there is little need to use air fresheners.
  • Change your touch of colour in a room, or in an area of interest, even in your outdoor entertaining areas.
  • They are just lovely to look at and make you feel really good each time you glance at them.

Do you remember the fake flowers of a bygone era?

I remember growing up with my great aunts having lots of them everywhere in their homes that I absolutely detested. (Some were horrible plastic ones like they used to put on graves)

The fake flowers were often covered in dust and every spring they would either dust or wash them. You may have heard the phrase – Dusting the Flowers. I swore I would never have fake flowers in my home.

But as time passed I have introduced some into my home and I have a favourite store in Toowoomba who sell the most lifelike artificial flowers made of all sorts of materials like silk. It really is hard to tell with some of them if they are real or not.

They look so real we have now used them for two of my daughters wedding bouquets and had several comments from people thinking they were real. The added bonus is they have now got a keepsake from their weddings also.

I never thought I would, but I have to say that I am turning into my “Great Aunts” (only my fake flowers definitely look better).

A really creative friend of mine, locally renowned potter Susy Blu, uses artificial flowers and strategically arranges them with real foliage taken from her garden.

Many a time I have had to ask if the flowers were real as I couldn’t tell without touching them.

It’s all down to personal choice and may depend on your lifestyle and whether you have time to garden or can justify spending money on fresh flowers each week or whether you feel the life like versions which will never die and you will never have to change are a better option for you. However there is no reason you can’t incorporate both into your home decorating with great success.

Why not give decorating with flowers in your home a try and see how much joy you get from such a simple thing!
